Liposuction
This procedure is used to alter the shape of the body and is suitable for both man and women. Stubborn areas of fat along with non desirable deposits of fat may prove difficult to eliminate with diet and excercise alone. It cannot improve stretch marks or cellulite, but can change the shape of the body effectively. Common areas of fat deposits are on thighs, abdomen, arms, neck, loins, inner sides of knees and ankles. Fat may also develop under the nipples of men, causing enlarged breasts to occur (gynecomastia).
WHAT TO EXPECT
This is normally carried out under a general anaesthetic, but for the lower body an epidural may be suitable. If only small areas are required, then a local anaesthetic may be appropriate, and for any of the above, a day or up to 1 night in hospital is necessary. After your operation, an elasticated pressure garment or bandages will need to be worn for several weeks, although this may be removed in order to wash or bathe when given the clearance by your surgeon. Any stitches will be removed after 1 week, and painkillers may be required for a few days post operatively. There is some scarring after this procedure, and for a very small
area only a few days are required off work, but for larger areas up to 2-3 weeks maybe needed.
